Carson City Sheriff's officers kill knife attacker

A man was shot and killed by Carson City sheriff's officers after he allegedly stabbed his wife to death in south Carson City on Wednesday night, according to a news release from the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

At 10:50 p.m., CCSO responded to reports of domestic violence involving a deadly weapon. A teenager called 911 and reported that his father had stabbed his mother multiple times, the news release said. The teen also reported that his father had severely cut himself and was “almost beyond help.”

When officers arrived, the family had managed to escape the man and the home on Koontz Lane, according to the press release. Officers found the woman with multiple stab wounds and two juveniles. She was in serious condition when she was taken by rescue helicopter to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect and after he did not respond, they entered the house at 11:15 p.m. An altercation ensued and the man was shot by two officers, the press release said.

The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave in accordance with current policies pending the completion of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office investigation.

The identities of the victim, suspect and officers are not being released. Both youths were safe and unharmed.
