Maverick Entertainment Group expands operations to the UK

Maverick Entertainment Group, the South Florida-based independent film producer and distributor of digital and packaged media, is expanding its operations to the United Kingdom.

Founder Doug Schwab said in a Facebook post on August 29 that Maverick Movies will build a London-based operation aimed at aspiring filmmakers.

“After 27 years of successfully building strong partnerships with a solid customer base through film distribution in the United States and Canada, perhaps it is time to expand our presence,” Schwab wrote in the post.

He said the move would open up new opportunities for British filmmakers, a strategy he has pursued in the US by targeting niche content from the independent and Black cinema sectors. Since its founding in 1997, Maverick has released more than 1,300 films. In addition to financing and producing originals, the company releases over 100 films a year in digital and physical formats.
