Rains County man sentenced to 60 years in prison for aggravated sexual assault of a minor

RAINS COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) – A Rains County man has been sentenced to 60 years in prison after sexually abusing a 13-year-old child.

The trial of Markell Travion Spigner, 27, of Emory ended Wednesday at the Rains County Courthouse Annex, where he was found guilty of aggravated sexual assault of a 13-year-old.

According to Emory law enforcement, Spigner's DNA was discovered after the victim reported the abuse to authorities the morning after the incident and was examined by a sex crimes nurse at the Northeast Texas Children's Advocacy Center.

District Attorney Robert Vititow praised the court staff and the citizens of Rains County who served as jurors for their excellent work. “The jury obviously took their task very seriously.”
