Orangeburg man found guilty of sexual abuse

A 34-year-old Orangeburg man is in prison after pleading guilty to having sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl.

Frederick Quentin James, of Jensen Court, pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor, the victim was under 16 years of age.

During a recent court hearing in Orangeburg District Court, he entered his guilty plea before District Judge Heath P. Taylor.


Taylor sentenced James to eight years in prison. James received credit for 1,190 days served.

James was also charged with two counts of third-degree sexual abuse of a minor, but those charges were dropped.

James was 30 years old when he committed the crimes on February 9 and 10, 2021. An arrest warrant alleged that James had sexual intercourse with the girl against her will.

• Loretta Lynn Rucker, 49, of 105 Hatchery Hill Road, Cordova, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault.

Taylor sentenced her to 30 days in jail, with credit for time already served.

• Steven W. Rutland, 62, of 1850 Longwood Drive, Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to grand theft valued at $10,000 or more.

Taylor sentenced him to three years in prison.

Because Rutland had already spent 305 days in prison, his sentence was suspended for three years.

Rutland must also pay restitution and undergo drug counseling.

• Vernon Lamont Williams, 22, of 130 Brook Drive, Bamberg, pleaded guilty to carrying a weapon on school property.

Taylor sentenced Williams to two days in prison, with credit for time already served.

• Shonterro Antonio Aiken, 38, of 302 Clarendon Street, Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to second-degree domestic violence.

Taylor sentenced him to 290 days in prison, with credit for time already served.

Aiken was also charged with malicious damage to property valued at $2,000 or less, but that charge was dropped.

• Dameion Shy'Quyoahus Bowman, 26, of 182 Chanticleer Court, Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to possession of a stolen pistol, third-degree domestic violence and first-time possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person convicted of certain felonies.

Taylor sentenced him to 18 months in prison, with 73 days of time served credited.

The following charges were brought against Bowman, but were dropped: possession of a stolen pistol and first-time illegal carrying of a pistol.

• Tykwon Terell Fields, 31, of 119 Bellcrest Court, Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to first-time possession of one gram or less of methamphetamine or cocaine base.

Taylor sentenced him to six months in prison. Fields was given credit for having already spent 123 days in prison.

Fields was also charged with possession of an open bottle of beer or wine in a motor vehicle, but that charge was dropped.

• Tarik Kawaun Jenkins, 42, of 810 Rush Street, Holly Hill, pleaded guilty to first-degree cruelty to animals.

Taylor sentenced him to 90 days in prison, with credit for time already served.
