Matt Lauer's daughter Romy is involved in a car accident in Hamptons and leaves her license plate

As Page Six has learned, Matt Lauer's 20-year-old daughter Romy was involved in a car accident in the Hamptons over the Fourth of July weekend. However, the student left her license plate at the scene of the accident, which was later found by local police.

Multiple sources told Page Six that the minor collision broke off the license plate of Romy's Jeep Wrangler, allowing Southampton Town Police to identify the former “Today” presenter's daughter.

According to police, Romy, the daughter of Lauer and his ex-wife, model Annette Roque, was issued a summons for hit-and-run.

Another source told Page Six that a ticket was issued and well-known local attorney Edward Burke Jr. “is currently involved in the case and is prosecuting it for Ms. Lauer in court.”

Burke, who has represented high-profile clients such as Justin Timberlake, Matt Lauer, Lizzie Grubman and Jason Kidd, is handling the case.

A source told Page Six that a concerned neighbor called 911 around 4 a.m. on July 5 after hearing a loud noise from an accident on North Sea Mecox Road, fearing someone might be injured.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a torn down fence and a sign, but the driver had fled and left the license plate behind.

On the night of July 4, Romy posted a TikTok video of herself and two friends eating at the Kissaki sushi restaurant in nearby Water Mill.

In the social media post, the group is seen mouthing the words, “I only have three things to say: God bless our troops, God bless America, and gentlemen, start your engines!”

Romy last made headlines when her father was seen singing and dancing in a series of videos on her social media in 2019. It was Romy's first public appearance after he was fired from his prominent anchor position on NBC's “Today” following allegations of “inappropriate sexual conduct.”
