Three men ransack a house in Maplewood and lead police on a chase in a stolen car

Three Newark men were arrested after police said they entered a Maplewood home, ransacked it and then pursued police on foot across the New Jersey Turnpike.

According to Maplewood police, officers responded to a report of a vehicle theft at a home on Colonial Terrace around 4:40 a.m. Saturday morning. During the course of the investigation, police determined the suspects entered the home through an unlocked window at the rear of the home. Once inside, the men ransacked the home and stole the key fob of a gray 2023 BMW M8 belonging to the resident. The suspects then left the area with the stolen vehicle, authorities said in a statement.

Later that morning, around 11:30 a.m., detectives from the Maplewood Police Department spotted the stolen car on the New Jersey Turnpike and began pursuing it in an unmarked police vehicle. With assistance from the New Jersey State Police, officers stopped the vehicle for a felony. At that point, police say, the three occupants fled on foot “across the highway” and were eventually arrested.

Tyshir Stewart, 22, Isaiah Singleton, 22, and Daniel DeLeon, 18 – all of Newark – were arrested. Police say they face several charges, including aggravated assault on a police officer, escape and receiving stolen goods. All three were taken to the Essex County Correctional Facility.
