Suspect arrested in Sweden after Brits found dead in burnt-out car | Sweden

Swedish authorities have arrested and detained a man on suspicion of aiding and abetting the murder of two British citizens who were found dead in a burnt-out car in Malmö.

The two victims, whose identities were confirmed by prosecutors: Farooq Abdulrazak, 37, and Juan Cifuentes, 33, were found dead on July 14.

The two men, from north London, were reported missing by their families days before the incident after they failed to return home from a business trip to Denmark and Sweden.

The public prosecutor's office said on Thursday that the suspect would be questioned and detained for a maximum of three days while investigations by Swedish and British authorities continued.

Magnus Pettersson, the senior prosecutor leading the investigation, said: “The investigation has now reached a point where a person has today been accused of involvement in the events that led to the deaths of two people on 14 July. There will now be interviews, both with the suspect and with others. After that, I will comment on further deprivation of liberty.”

“In parallel, further investigative work is underway in the form of technical investigations, collection and analysis of digital evidence and other things. This work is taking place both here in Sweden and in the UK.”

Malmö police and the Metropolitan Police in the UK said they could not comment on the case.

Pettersson told the Guardian: “I can confirm that a person is being held for aiding and abetting the murder of the two people named below. [Abdulrazak and Cifuentes]“We will not comment further on the investigation at this time.”
