Video apparently shows IDF soldiers sexually abusing Palestinian prisoners

An Israeli television station has broadcast surveillance camera footage allegedly showing Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers sexually abusing a Palestinian prisoner.

The video shows dozens of prisoners lying face down on the ground with their hands clasped behind their heads.

One of the prisoners is led to an inconspicuous corner. Three soldiers appear to be blocking his view with shields.

Only about a meter away, a leashed military dog can be seen barking wildly at the prisoner.

The incident, which is said to have occurred in Sde Teiman prison in July, was sharply criticized by the White House and described as “deeply worrying” and must be fully investigated.

US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller was asked about the video and said: “We have seen the video and the reports of sexual abuse of prisoners are horrifying. They should be fully investigated by the Israeli government and the Israeli defense forces.”

“There should be zero tolerance for sexual abuse or rape of prisoners, period.”

“If there are prisoners who have been sexually assaulted or raped, the Israeli government, the Israel Defense Forces, must fully investigate these acts and hold all those responsible accountable to the fullest extent possible under the law,” he said.

The United Nations also called for a “full investigation” and referred to “a series of videos in recent months showing gross violations of the rights of Palestinians detained in Israel, including ill-treatment, torture, sexual violence and rape.”

The facility in Israel's Negev region is holding numerous Gaza residents suspected of involvement in or aiding the October 7 attacks.

They are being held without charge, guarded by Israeli army reservists and military police, and have no access to lawyers.

In recent weeks there have been reports that some prisoners have been raped by guards.

Riots broke out and the prison was stormed by far-right Israelis demanding the release of nine soldiers who had been arrested on suspicion of mistreatment.

An Israel Defense Forces spokesman said: “An MPCID investigation has been launched on the orders of the Military Attorney General's Corps based on suspicion of serious ill-treatment of a detainee held in the Sde Teiman Detention Center.”

“Nine suspects who were on base were arrested for questioning on suspicion of serious mistreatment of a detainee. The suspects were transferred for questioning by military police.”
