Fired BBC presenter Jermaine Jenas admits sending inappropriate messages; says he is 'not a sex pest'

The BBC presenter who was sacked this week has broken his silence and admitted that he sent “inappropriate messages” to two colleagues.

Former footballer Jermaine Jenas gave an interview with The sun In it he said he was “ashamed” and “had disappointed everyone”.

He revealed that he had sent messages to two colleagues on the BBC's daily evening magazine. The One Showbut said he had done nothing illegal, that the messages were sent to “two consenting adults” and that he was “not a sex pest.”

Following previous incidents in which the BBC was criticised for not acting quickly enough to allegations against some of its high-profile faces, the broadcaster terminated Jenas' contract on Thursday, several weeks after the allegations came to light. Further details of Jenas' departure were not disclosed.

In the interview, Jenas added:

Before his dismissal, Jenas was also a pundit on the BBC’s long-running football programme Match of the daywhich celebrates its 60th anniversary this week. It has been suggested that he could replace long-serving presenter Gary Lineker at some point in the future.
