Man stabbed and injured in unprovoked attack on train in Manhattan; knife attacker on the run

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, Manhattan (WABC) — A man was stabbed to death on the 1 subway line in Washington Heights and police are still searching for his attacker.

It happened on Wednesday shortly after 11:15 p.m. on a northbound train on Line 1.

The 39-year-old victim suffered a stab wound to the chest and a cut to his right arm in the unprovoked attack.

The victim got off at the 191st Street station and was taken to Harlem Hospital in stable condition.

The stabber continued north on the train. He is described as a man in his 30s, wearing a red hat and black shirt and carrying a red duffel bag.

He was identified by police and MTA employees as a frequent rider on the 1 Line who had harassed passengers in the past.

One driver said that while he was not worried about his own safety, he did not like it when people in his community were injured.

“I'm not worried about my safety, I've lived here for 45 years. I'm not worried,” the driver said. “It bothers me. I'm not happy to see violence being done to anyone, especially in my community. My prayers are with the young man and his family.”

So far, no arrests have been made.
