SM Entertainment and South Korean police share information on Taeil's allegations of “sexual abuse”

K-pop agency SM Entertainment and South Korean police have released further information regarding allegations of “sexual assault” against former NCT member Taeil.

Yesterday (August 28), SM Entertainment announced that NCT singer Taeil would be leaving the boy band after it was revealed that the singer was “charged in a criminal case related to a sexual offense.” Taeil had debuted as a member of NCT in 2016 as part of the permanent subgroup NCT 127.

In its statement, the K-pop agency said it had “determined that Taeil can no longer continue his activities with NCT” after the company “recognized the seriousness of the situation.” SM Entertainment also noted that it was “evaluating the facts surrounding the matter” regarding Taeil.

Today (August 29), SM Entertainment responded to South Korean media reports that allegations of sexual assault against Taeil were made in June of this year.

In a statement to EDailyper SoompiSM Entertainment claimed that both the company and Taeil “learned about the charges around the middle of this month,” adding that the K-pop idol “was investigated by police on August 28.”

On the night of August 28, the South Korean police also commented on the nature of the allegations against former NCT singer Taeil. Chosun Ilboabove Korea JoongAng DailyOfficials said the allegations were “not directed against minors or men.”

Taeil is also the fourth NCT member to leave the group in recent years. In 2023, vocalists Sungchan and Shotaro left the boy band to join the new group RIIZE. Meanwhile, Lucas Wong officially left the group in May 2023 after a long hiatus.
