One dead, one accused in Wednesday's accident – CCN

An Iron Hill man died in a three-car collision on Wednesday afternoon.

80-year-old George Soles Jr. was killed when the 1936 truck he was driving was struck at the intersection of Peacock Road and Reynolds Road.

Sergeant K. McVicker of the Highway Patrol said John Weidman Jr., of Conway, was on Reynolds Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign. His car collided with a Dodge Ram pickup truck traveling north on Peacock.

The impact caused the Dodge to collide head-on with Soles' vehicle. The vintage truck overturned and came to rest on the shoulder of the road.

The driver of the Dodge truck was flown by helicopter to Grand Strand Medical Center. Three occupants of the vehicle were also taken to Grand Strand by ambulance.

Weidman was taken to McLeod Loris Hospital and charged with failure to yield and negligent homicide.

McVicker said there was no evidence that alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.
