Metrobus accident in Istanbul claims one life, 38 injuries and leads to operational disruptions

In the Istanbul district of Küçükçekmece, a moving metrobus collided with another metrobus, resulting in a serious accident with 35 injured, including four seriously injured, and one fatality. The metrobus, which was heading towards Beylikdüzü, lost control near Sefaköy, hit an oncoming metrobus, left the road and crashed into the guardrail.

Emergency services such as police, fire brigade and doctors were immediately dispatched to the scene of the accident. The firefighters managed to rescue two people trapped under the metrobus. The injured were immediately taken to nearby hospitals after receiving initial treatment on site.

The accident caused significant damage. The windows of both metrobuses shattered and their front and interior parts were damaged. Municipal teams are continuing to clean up the area and investigations are ongoing.

Metrobus services in both directions were suspended immediately after the accident, causing long lines of cars and many passengers to walk along the metrobus road to reach nearby stops. However, services resumed shortly after the metrobuses were removed from the scene with the help of tow trucks.

The moment of the collision has since been recorded by a nearby surveillance camera. The footage shows the metrobus heading towards Beylikdüzü brushing against the oncoming metrobus before losing control and eventually coming to a stop after hitting the guardrails in the right lane.
