Disabled man stabbed to death – “tried to escape” but got stuck in wheelchair

Two men, aged 28 and 21, were arrested nearby and remain in custody at a police station in east London, the Metropolitan Police said.

Mr Barnett's next of kin have been notified of his death and are being supported by specialist officers.

Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway, responsible for policing Hackney and Tower Hamlets, said: “Our investigation is still in its early stages and my detectives are working hard to establish the circumstances of this afternoon’s events.

“If anyone has any information about this tragic incident, I urge them to come forward and speak to us. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously with any information.

“A number of roads have been cordoned off while our investigation continues at full speed and I am grateful to the residents of Clapton for their patience.

“Our thoughts are with the victim's family at this difficult time. The public can expect continued and significant police activity in the area as we continue our thorough investigation.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 or message @‌MetCC on X (formerly Twitter) quoting CAD 4793/28AUG.
