Police say woman attacks Cherry Creek school bus driver after argument with student

A Cherry Creek School District bus driver who aggressively attacked a student on a broken-down school bus on Wednesday was subsequently attacked by a woman and suffered minor injuries, Aurora police said.

At around 4 p.m., officers responded to a suspicious incident in the area of South Kittredge Street and South Mission Parkway involving students on a school bus, department spokeswoman Sydney Edwards said.

Police determined the bus driver grabbed the student “in an aggressive manner” after the bus broke down in the area, Edwards said.

A short time later, a woman approached the bus and began attacking the driver after the bus doors opened, according to Aurora police.

The woman fled the scene with the student before the police arrived.

Investigators are currently working to identify the woman who walked away from the scene of the accident and are still considering whether the student's family wants to press charges against the bus driver, Edwards said.

The Cherry Creek School District is investigating the incident, spokeswoman Lauren Snell said in an email.

The families were informed of the incident in a phone call on Wednesday. The call said the bus had broken down due to a mechanical problem, which meant the driver could not open the doors immediately.
