Missing mountaineer Grant Marcuccio found dead after apparent fall in Glacier National Park

The body of a Montana man who disappeared while hiking in Glacier National Park earlier this month has been recovered by search parties, the National Park Service said. Grant Marcuccio, 32, failed to show up at the agreed-upon meeting point after leaving his group to climb to the summit of McPartland Peak alone on Aug. 18, an agency news release said. A large-scale search operation was launched the next morning, with air and ground crews canvassing the surrounding area of Heavens Peak. On Sunday, seven days after Marcuccio's disappearance, his remains were discovered by air by a Whitefish-based rescue group called Two Bear Air. They were recovered a half-mile east of McPartland Peak, below a ridge that separates the mountain from Heavens Peak. Marcuccio's cause of death had not been confirmed as of Monday, but the National Park Service said his traumatic injuries, coupled with the location where his body was found, “are consistent with a fall.” At least eight people have died in the Montana park in the last two years, half of them this summer alone.
