“The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal” – a look at one of Canada’s most popular bands

Canadians will soon see a documentary about one of the country’s most popular bands – The Tragically Hip.

“The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal” will be shown on September 18 at the Globe Cinema as part of the Calgary International Film Festival.

“I thought it was great,” said director Mike Downie after reviewing hours of footage of his late brother, Tragically Hip lead singer Gord Downie.

“It was exciting to look for pieces, rumored backstage footage from 1986 and all kinds of things, and we found a lot of them.”

Many of Tragically Hip's songs revolve around Canadian stories and themes, including those of Tom Thomson, Bill Barilko and David Milgaard. Mike Downie credits the band for encouraging Canadians to be proud of their history.

“I think we've become a lot more confident and independent, believing in ourselves, in our stories and their power, and I think The Hip has something to do with that,” Downie said.
