Chris Ballard: If I get fired because of my approach, then that’s how it is

General Manager Chris Ballard has led the Colts' personnel department since 2017, and the team has won one playoff game during his tenure despite having a losing record.

In two of the last three seasons, the team had a chance to make the playoffs late in the year but failed, and in the season in between, head coach Frank Reich was fired mid-year. Despite those setbacks, Ballard hasn't made any major changes to his approach to building the team, saying Wednesday that he still believes “very strongly in what we're doing, how we're doing it and how we're going to get there.”

Ballard said he doesn't feel like he's in a bigger predicament now than he has been in years past, and he wouldn't change his approach even if he felt he might lose his job in the near future.

“Either you believe in something or you don't believe anything,” Ballard said, via Stephen Holder of ESPN.com. “It's easy to waver and do what the world tells you to do. You either believe in something or you don't. That's what we believe in. That gets me fired, so be it.”

Ballard selected quarterback Anthony Richardson in the first round last year, and Richardson's ability to return to playing at a high level after missing the season due to a right shoulder injury will have a big impact on whether or not the Colts want to do anything for their team during the offseason.
