Federal lawsuit accuses Independence man of possession of child pornography

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Police officers arrested a man Wednesday after he was charged with child pornography.

Timothy Fry, 40, of Independence, faces charges in federal court in Kansas City, Missouri, with distribution of child pornography, receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography.

The Western District of Missouri Attorney General's Office filed a motion Wednesday asking a judge to remand Fry in custody without bail.

One of the reasons cited in court documents for detaining Fry without bail is that he is considered a “danger to the community.”

Fry, a leader of a local Boy Scout troop, “clearly poses a danger to minors,” court documents say.

In February, the police received a tip that he had child pornography on his mobile phone.

According to court documents, more than 4,000 images and 120 videos of child pornography were found on his cell phone.

In a conversation with police officers, he admitted that he had been involved in the trade in child pornography since he was 18 or 19 years old.

Fry is also charged in Jackson County District Court with five counts of possession of child pornography.

A hearing on the charges is scheduled for September 25 in Jackson County District Court.
