Exclusive trailer for “Once in a Valentine” gives a foretaste of exciting drama film

Once in a Valentine is a new drama from Entertainment Squad, directed and co-written by Javon Johnson. The film hits select U.S. theaters later this week.

What is “Once in a Valentine” about?

“Similar to For Colored Girls and Promising Young Woman, Once In A Valentine tells the story of Celeste, who was sexually assaulted by a stranger on Valentine's Day,” the film's synopsis reads. “The attack resulted in her becoming pregnant with her daughter, Aila. Years after the brutal attack by the stranger, Celeste still struggles with PTSD. After persistent urging from her friends and family, Celeste finally breaks out of her shell and meets a seemingly perfect man, Noah. Celeste immediately falls in love with him. Noah's heart is also filled with Celeste and he proposes to her after just a few dates. No sooner is Celeste ready to marry him than she discovers the horrific secret that Noah was actually the stranger who raped her. Devastated, Celeste must decide how to move forward with the knowledge that her fiancé is her rapist and the father of her child.”

The film stars Clifton Powell (“Rush Hour,” “Next Friday”), Bernd Nadette Stanis (“Good Times”), Loren Lott (“The Young and the Restless”), Jessie Jalee (“The Color Purple”), Jojo Redd (“I Got a Story to Tell”) and Jocelyn Castor (“Hood Riches”).

Johnson, who makes his feature film directorial debut with Once in a Valentine, co-wrote the screenplay with Mary Rivers-Martinez and Jessie Jalee. He also serves as executive producer alongside Jalee, Len Gibson, Wayne Overstreet and ATL Kellz.

Once in a Valentine will be released by Entertainment Squad in select U.S. theaters on August 30, 2024.
