4 dead and 10 injured in van accident in Wise County

Four people were killed and ten injured in a van accident in Wise County.

The accident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday in the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 287 near Alvord, between Bowie and Decatur.

The accident involved a Chevrolet 3500 passenger van that overturned.

A press release from Wise County EMS confirmed that 14 people were involved in the accident and three died at the scene. Multiple emergency services and helicopters were called to the scene.

EMS chief Randall Preuninger said the car apparently rolled over several times.

Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Tony De La Cerda said a fourth person died after being transported from the scene. He said all of the van's occupants were adults and it appears the vehicle was from Florida.

“According to a preliminary investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the driver of the pickup truck left the road, oversteered and exited the northbound lane,” the Wise County Messenger reported Wednesday.

The rescue service's press release stated that three patients were taken to the rescue helicopter in critical condition, six patients suffered serious injuries and two less serious injuries.
