Police search for juvenile suspect in fatal shooting at Columbia mall

Howard County police have identified a 17-year-old as a suspect in the fatal shooting of a teenager at the mall in Columbia on July 27.

In a news release, police said the suspect targeted 17-year-old Angelo Little as shoppers crowded around him on a Saturday afternoon. Investigators said the suspect and victim knew each other, but they have not yet determined a motive. Police said the suspect is wanted on premeditated murder and related charges.

Authorities released the suspect's name in a press release because his whereabouts were unknown and they considered him a potential threat to the public.

The Baltimore Banner is not identifying the suspect because he is a minor.

Police say the suspect is an Oakland Mills High School student who has not attended school since classes began this week. A spokesperson for the Howard County Public School System referred questions to the police department.

Investigators reviewed hundreds of hours of surveillance footage and worked with federal partners but were unable to locate the suspect, police said. They believe he may have left the immediate area.

Police had previously said that surveillance video from the mall on July 27 showed the suspect sitting at a table in the food court with his head down until the victim walked toward the restroom hallway.

In the released video, the suspect can be seen wearing a dark mask covering his face, a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood over his head, black Adidas sweatpants, and black shoes. The footage shows the suspect running through the housekeeping hallway at the mall.

Police are offering an increased reward of $10,000 to anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest of the suspect.

Anyone with information should contact police at 410-313-STOP or [email protected].
