Fatal accident near Lake Point

A head-on collision on exit 99 claimed one life on Tuesday afternoon, August 27.

At 3:57 p.m., the driver of a maroon Ford Explorer crossed the center line on the I-80 eastbound ramp at Exit 99 and collided head-on with a green Ford F150, according to a Utah Highway Patrol news release.

The driver of the Ford Explorer, a 69-year-old woman, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. The driver of the Ford F150, a 61-year-old man, was flown by helicopter to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The man's current condition is unknown. The Ford F150 caught fire at the scene following the crash, requiring a response from the North Tooele Fire District.

Following the accident, the exit was closed for several hours, causing a traffic jam lasting several hours and forcing drivers to take an alternative route home.
