Child accidentally smashes 3,500-year-old vessel during museum visit

A child accidentally smashed a 3,500-year-old vessel into pieces during a visit to the Hecht Museum in Haifa, Israel, the museum confirmed.

The museum said the dishes date from the Middle Bronze Age, between 2,200 and 1,500 BC. BCThe vessel dates from the time before King David and King Solomon and is characteristic of the Canaan region.

The vessel was exhibited in the museum without glass because they believed there was a “special charm” in experiencing archaeological finds without any obstacles.

The museum said it would continue this tradition despite the incident.

The Hecht Museum said the child and his family have accepted an invitation to revisit the exhibition as part of an organized tour and to view the vessel after its restoration. Photo credit: Hecht Museum staff via Storyful
