Minister for Environment and Ecology Mr Tse Chin-wan today (28 August) expressed deep sadness over the death of Senior Field Officer of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Mr Lam Kin-wai.

While carrying out his duties at Tai Mo Shan Country Park today, Mr Lam injured his right hand and later lost consciousness. He was subsequently taken to hospital and pronounced dead.

Mr Tse said: “On behalf of the Office of Environment and Ecology, I would like to express my deepest condolences to Mr Lam's family. We will do everything in our power to provide the family with the necessary support and assistance.”

InvestHK actively promotes Hong Kong’s business advantages in Jiangsu

​Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) is holding two business seminars in Nanjing today and tomorrow (28 and 29 August) to raise awareness among local companies about Hong Kong's advantages in financial services and supply chain management, and encourage them to seize the opportunities Hong Kong offers for globalisation.

The first seminar today (28 August), titled “Hong Kong: Unparalleled Opportunities to Expand Your Global Business”, is part of the “SmartHK” event. It is organised by InvestHK and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and jointly organised by the Jiangsu Provincial Financial Regulatory Administration and the Jiangsu Development and Reform Commission (DRC). The seminar began with a welcoming speech by Acting Director-General of Investment Promotion Dr. Jimmy Chiang, followed by Deputy Director of the Office of the Financial Commission of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee Mr. Qian Dongping. The second-level inspector of the Jiangsu DRC Mr. Cao Yang attended the seminar.

Dr. Chiang said: “Hong Kong is Jiangsu's largest source of foreign direct investment and its most important investment destination. It is also an important platform for Jiangsu's enterprises to go global. Under the principle of 'one country, two systems', Hong Kong offers special advantages as an important gateway for foreign enterprises to enter the mainland market, but also an important platform for mainland enterprises to connect with the world. Hong Kong is an international financial center, a global offshore renminbi business center, an international asset management center and a risk management center with a robust financial system, a diversified and efficient capital market, a sound financial infrastructure and an international legal and regulatory system. It is also a green financial center in Asia, attracting many mainland and foreign enterprises to set up businesses here. Jiangsu's enterprises can take advantage of Hong Kong's advanced professional financial services and new investment opportunities to accelerate their globalization.”

Representing the government authorities of Jiangsu Province, Mr. Qian told the audience that Jiangsu will further deepen cooperation with Hong Kong and encourage local enterprises to leverage Hong Kong's advantages in financial services for their globalization.

At the seminar, InvestHK's Head of Business and Talent Attraction/Investment Promotion in Shanghai, Mr. Arthur Lam, introduced Hong Kong's unique financial advantages and the services InvestHK provides to Jiangsu companies to help them achieve high-quality development through Hong Kong. Other speakers included Vice President of Global Issuer Services of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, Ms. Wang Xiao Fang, Deputy Director General of CECEP (Hong Kong) Investment Co., Ltd and Vice President of Hong Kong Green Finance Association, Mr. Yang Xing, and Member of the Greater China Legal Committee of the Law Society of Hong Kong, Mr. Brian Ho. They discussed how Jiangsu companies can use Hong Kong's capital market to expand overseas, the latest developments and opportunities in green finance in Hong Kong, and the legal regulations for listing mainland companies in Hong Kong. Director of XCMG Treasury Management (Hong Kong) Limited, Mr. Song Guoxiang, shared his experience in expanding their global presence through Hong Kong.

The second seminar and lunch, entitled “Hong Kong Serves as a Multinational Supply Chain Management Center for Mainland Enterprises”, will be held tomorrow (29 August), introducing Hong Kong's advantages as an offshore trade and multinational supply chain management center, and encouraging Jiangsu enterprises to take advantage of Hong Kong's business advantages and opportunities to expand overseas under the Belt and Road Initiative, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The event is hosted by InvestHK and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai (SHETO) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. It is organized by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Commerce and co-organized by the Jiangsu Association of Supply Chain, with the support of Bank of East Asia (China) Limited. SHETO Director Ms. Laura Aron, Deputy Director-General of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Commerce Mr. Sun Jin and Vice Chairman of Jiangsu Association of Supply Chain Mr. Jiang Zhiping will deliver welcoming remarks, followed by a thematic presentation by Dr. Chiang. The event aims to promote Hong Kong's strategic status as an international financial, shipping and trade center and an international hub for high-caliber talent. It also aims to encourage Jiangsu companies to leverage Hong Kong's advantage in the business and professional services sector and the opportunities arising from its active role as a multinational supply chain management center, where companies can better manage their overseas manufacturing capabilities and supply chains.

The Head of Trade Services Department of Bank of East Asia Limited, Mr. Tony Wong, will provide information on cross-border financial services and comprehensive trade finance services. The General Manager of E-Commerce of Kidswant Children Products Co., Ltd., Mr. Liu Hao, will share his practical experience in supply chain management at the event.
