Man, 20, charged with knife attack on mother who was with her child at Notting Hill Carnival | UK news

A 20-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder for stabbing a 32-year-old mother to death at the Notting Hill Carnival.

Shakiel Thibou was charged with attempted murder, violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon in the early hours of Wednesday, the Metropolitan Police said.

The mother, who is still in critical condition in hospital, had attended the carnival with her child.

Two other men have been charged in connection with the stabbing. The three men are brothers.

Sheldon Thibou, 24, was charged with violent disorder, possession of a stun gun and assault on an emergency medical technician.

Shaeim Thibou, 22, was charged with violent disorder and assault on an emergency medical technician.

The three men, who live in Hammersmith and Fulham in west London, were remanded in custody and are due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court this morning.

The police said Five people were stabbed and 230 were arrested on the last day of the carnival in west London on Monday. In total, three people were stabbed on Sunday.

The Notting Hill Carnival began in the 1960s and is one of the oldest street festivals in the UK. It culminates with a large parade on the Monday of the event, featuring music and dancing by colourfully costumed artists.

Around 7,000 officers were deployed for the event on the holiday weekend after police announced that there would be a “very large police presence” this year.
