OSU Balls

What Mike Gundy had to say about South Dakota State in his radio show – and What South Dakota State’s head coach had to say via OSU (PFB) • Alex Hale stays with the Packers (SI) • Fantastic point here from Jenni Carlson – South Dakota State is not used to the heat in Oklahoma. And the game start time at 1 p.m. is strategic.

(SDSU) comes to Stillwater next Saturday for the aforementioned 1 p.m. opener, and while the two-time defending FCS champions appear to be a matchup for OSU, the heat will be another opponent in this matchup. South Dakota State's campus is in Brookings, and the highest temperature there in the last two weeks was 29 degrees. And there have been far more days with highs above 21 degrees than above 25 degrees.

• Only One of CBS Sports’ football analysts sees OSU in the College Football Playoff – and an at-large bid at that (CBS Sports) • Kind of crazy to see renumbered sections in Boone Pickens Stadium:

Non-OSU bullets

• Subway is offering 12-inch sandwiches for $7 through September 8. I like this description of college football:

These are the iconic images of the sport, but for me – honestly – it is just as picturesque when it is played under a steel-grey November sky, with tens of thousands gathering for a game that habit have no impact on the playoff results or the trophy hunt, people simply gathered despite the gathering autumn clouds and cheered their team to win today, because a win today would be enough.
