Sports drama “Hot Stove League” by Namgoong Min, Park Eun Bin and Jo Byeong Gyu confirmed as Japanese remake

The 2019 sports drama Hot Stove League, starring Namgoong Min, Park Eun Bin and Jo Byeong Gyu, is set to be remade in Japan. According to reports, the drama's production company, Studio S, recently held a contract signing for the joint venture with Japan's NTT Docomo-Yoshimoto Kogyo JV.

On August 28, Korean media outlet Star News reported that the International Broadcasting Video Market 2024 was recently held at COEX in Gangnam, Seoul. Studio S, the production house of SBS series Hot Stove League, attended a contract signing ceremony with Japanese joint venture NTT Docomo-Yoshimoto Kogyo for the Japanese remake of the K series.

Studio S's drama department head Hong Sung Cha, the Japanese production company's CEO Keisuke Yoshizawa, and Hot Stove League actors Ha Do Kwon and Cha Yeop were present at the event on the afternoon of August 28.

Ha Do Kwon expressed his happiness about the Japanese remake, commenting that it is a work that has received a lot of praise in South Korea and is a very meaningful drama for him. Therefore, he is very excited about the remake and how the characters are portrayed in it. In addition, he said that hopefully this time, K-drama will get the attention it deserves with this exciting endeavor.

The 2019 SBS drama “Hot Stove League” centers on newly hired general manager Baek Seung Gu and passionate operations manager Lee Se Young as they work tirelessly together to prepare their basement-dwelling baseball team, Dreams, for an extraordinary season.

Namgoong Min, known from many popular dramas such as My Dearest, One Dollar Lawyer and more, takes on the role of Baek Seung Gu. His natural portrayal of the dynamic general manager immediately leaves you wanting more.

On the other hand, Park Eun Bin, known from “Extraordinary Attorney”, steps into the shoes of Lee Se Young. Her character is highly praised for her commitment and presence for the baseball team Dreams.

In addition to these two main stars, the drama also features Jo Byeong Gyu, Oh Jung Se, Kim Do Hyun, Chase Jong Hyeop and other actors in important supporting roles.

Thanks to its overwhelming topicality, the drama achieved an average nationwide audience rating of 20.8% when it premiered in 2019.
