Almost all of the hundreds of rockets and drones Hezbollah fired at Israel early Sunday were stationed in civilian areas of Lebanon near mosques, schools, gas stations and United Nations sites, the Israel Defense Forces said Monday evening.

Of the 230 rockets and 20 drones that passed through Israeli territory, 90 percent of the launches were “from the heart of civilian areas,” the army said. It provided an infographic showing the locations of rocket launchers in southern Lebanon, just 150 meters from a school and 160 meters from a mosque in the village of Tallouseh. One of them was 525 feet from a UN building in the Hanniyeh area, and dozens more were located nearby.

“The terrorist organization Hezbollah places its terrorist infrastructure in the midst of the civilian population and uses Lebanese civilians as human shields,” the IDF said.

In a preemptive strike, the Israeli Air Force destroyed thousands of launch pads and over 6,000 missiles and drones, preventing a much larger attack by Iran's Lebanese terror proxy.

On Monday evening, Hezbollah launched its own “swarm of drones” on the Western Galilee and the Houla Valley.

The Israel Defense Forces confirmed that several “suspicious aerial targets” were detected crossing into Israeli territory from Lebanon after sirens sounded in the Upper Galilee and just over 20 minutes later in the Western Galilee. Israeli air defense systems intercepted most of them and crashes were detected. No casualties were reported in either attack.

Hezbollah's drone strike came early Monday after Israel carried out a series of attacks in southern Lebanon, including one targeting a Hamas commander in the Sidon area. Lebanese media reported that the actual target was Nidal Hleihel, who was seriously injured when two rockets hit his car as he left his house and walked to his vehicle.

“Earlier this morning, the IAF attacked a Hezbollah military structure and terrorist infrastructure sites in the Meiss El Jabal, Khiam, Hajir and Bint Jbeil areas of southern Lebanon,” the IDF said on Monday evening.
