MCPS Heat Guide for Wednesday, August 28

Montgomery County Public Schools issued the following notice to the public on Tuesday, August 27:

“Dear MCPS community, due to the forecasted extreme heat, all school activities will be moved indoors on Wednesday, August 28, 2024including lunch, recess, physical education or any outdoor classes/activities.

After 18:00 hrsMCPS Athletics will run in typical weather conditions, but with the following changes:

1. No outdoor competitions may be held before 18:00 hrs The starting times must be 18:00 hrs or competitions must be postponed to another date in accordance with the usual rescheduling protocol.
2. For competitions according to 6:00 In the afternoon, coaches, officials and athletic trainers should carefully monitor student-athletes according to standard protocol. Mandatory water breaks will be given every 15 to 20 minutes of play. Adequate water should be provided; access to ice towels and cold plunge pools should be available.
3. MCPS Athletics weather guidelines apply to training. Additional guidance will be provided by athletics specialists and athletic trainers.
