Health officials in New Hampshire say a person has died after testing positive for the eastern equine encephalomyelitis virus. It was the first reported infection in the state in a decade. The virus, which is transmitted by mosquitoes, can cause death or severe mental and physical disabilities. There are no antiviral treatments or vaccines. Several towns in Massachusetts have asked residents to stay indoors at night due to fears of encephalitis.

On Wall Street, stocks posted small gains across the board today. The Dow Jones index reached a new record close, gaining just 10 points. The Nasdaq rose two points, gaining 29 points, and the S&P also climbed only slightly during the day.
