Jordan Chiles' social media return is a “stunning” success amid medal drama

Jordan Chiles' social media return is a “stunning” success amid medal drama

Jordanian chilis seems to have shrugged off the bronze medal drama as she just shared photos of herself sunbathing, with fans quick to comment on her “radiant” appearance.

The 23-year-old, who has been at the centre of the Olympic controversy, secured the bronze medal in the women's individual floor exercise event after a last-minute appeal by her coach Cecile Landi, who revised her floor exercise score upwards. Chiles was demoted from fifth to third place, knocking Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu off the podium.

However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) later ruled that the US team's appeal had been filed four seconds after the one-minute time limit had expired and that Jordan must now return Chiles' bronze medal.

Ahead of the 2024 Olympics, Chiles unveiled her encouraging motto for the Games: “This girl.”

“I can tell you that my floor routine is very on point. It's very 'That Girl.' That's my motto — 'I'm That Girl' is my motto this year,” she said a few months ago. “You'll see the difference between what it was like when Jordan was trying to make a team and what it's like for Jordan, who knows that no matter what happens, she's still going to be Jordan Chiles.”

“I think that's going to be the coolest part because I think a lot of people are going to see this and think, 'Oh, so that's what she was talking about.' Whether it's in my routines, just walking around, making that eye contact, laughing or whatever it is, I think it's going to be a really cool journey for people watching this,” Chiles added.

U.S. authorities released a time-stamped video proving that their appeal against Chiles' score was filed just 47 seconds after the score was announced – well within the one-minute time limit, as opposed to the four-second delay claimed during the CAS hearing.

Despite this new evidence proving Chile's legitimate claim to the bronze medal, CAS refused to reconsider the case. The USOPC responded: “Our objections have now been substantiated by new evidence revealing administrative errors by the FIG and mishandling by the CAS. Due to the expedited hearing process, we were denied a meaningful opportunity to present our case.”

After hearing the news, Chiles told her fans, “I am at a loss for words.”

“This decision feels unfair and is a huge blow, not only to me but to everyone who has supported my journey. What adds to the grief is that the unsolicited racially motivated attacks on social media are wrong and extremely hurtful,” she continued. “I have put my heart and soul into this sport and I am so proud to represent my culture and my country.”
