Zac Efron hospitalized after pool accident in Ibiza

Zac Efron, the 36-year-old star of Iron Claw and High School Musical, was rushed to hospital on Friday, August 2, following a swimming accident at a posh villa in Ibiza. According to TMZ, he was discovered in the pool by two of the villa's staff, who pulled him from the water. A spokesperson for the star explained that Zac was taken to the hospital as a “precautionary measure.”

They also clarified that it was a “minor” accident and that the actor is “recovering well.” He was released from hospital on Saturday morning. Zac, who was recently on a European tour, had previously suffered a horrific accident in which he shattered his jaw.

In 2022, the Hollywood heartthrob told Men's Health how he shattered his jaw while running around his house in socks. He revealed he slipped and hit the corner of a well before passing out, with his “chin bone” “hanging” from his face, reports the Mirror. While recovering from the injury, Zac's facial muscles “got really big,” prompting him to work with a physical therapist. He added: “The jaw muscles just grew. They just got really, really big.”

The masseter is a muscle in the face and jaw that plays an important role in chewing. Before Zac came clean about his dramatic new look, there were major rumors online that he had undergone plastic surgery. In a candid conversation with Entertainment Tonight, the heartthrob cleared the air and admitted that he only heard about the rumors from his mother.

“My mom told me. I never really read on the internet, so I don't really care,” Zac said, shrugging off the commotion with a laugh. “It was funny. It sucks. I almost died, but we're OK,” he continued, scaring his fans a little but assuring them that he's OK now.

The rumors about plastic surgery began when the attractive Baywatch star appeared in Bill Nye's “Earth Day! The Musical” special in 2021 with a seemingly different face.

OK! has contacted Zac’s representatives for comment.
