The tragic death of her husband saddens the star of “Homes Under The Hammer”

Homes Under The Hammer's Jacqui Joseph has spoken about the ongoing pain of losing her husband, but also why she knew she had to get on with her life. Jacqui took part in BBC property show Homes Under The Hammer in 2021, alongside Ground Force's Tommy Walsh. Since then, she has been a regular face on the popular daytime show, offering her expertise to buyers as they bring their properties into shape.

The presenter and producer has also worked on a number of other shows, including GMTV, Daybreak and ITV's Lorraine, as well as Wife Swap: The Aftermath, Hollywood Gossip and The Alan Titchmarsh Show. Behind her TV smile, however, Jacqui struggles with lingering grief. On New Year's Day 2018, Jacqui's beloved husband Andrew tragically succumbed to his eight-month battle with cancer. “He was at home and I was with him. It was very peaceful,” she revealed to Marie Curie in a 2022 interview.

She shared the news with her followers on Twitter at the time, writing: “Sorry we didn't get in touch. My husband Andrew passed away peacefully at home on January 1st after an 8 month battle with cancer. I miss him so much… I've set up a Macmillan page so please donate to this valuable service if you can and feel free to share with others xx.”

Jacqui and her beloved husband tied the knot in a “fabulous” ceremony in a picturesque church in Kensington, London, surrounded by their extended families. They were inseparable and their friends often asked them, “How do you do it? Aren't you sick of each other?” Jacqui always replied that they just never were.

After her husband's death, Jacqui was heartbroken and withdrew from the world, struggling with her loss. “At first I couldn't do anything. I just sat at home for months. I didn't contact anyone,” she said.

But Jacqui revealed that there was a moment when she knew she had to get on with her life, even without her soulmate by her side. “One day, something changed in me. I said, 'Come on, Jac, you have to get going now.' Andy was my biggest supporter and I knew he didn't want me to be moping around forever.”

She admits that the sadness is still there, but her first moment of joy came in April after Andrew's death.

Her brother, Paterson Joseph, known for his role as Alan Johnson in Peep Show, was appearing in a play in New York and Jacqui and her sisters flew there to support him.

On the night they all dressed up, one of her sisters, Pam, stunned everyone when she strutted out in full '70s glam. “She's not usually one to dress up, but she came out of her room in this super glam '70s outfit, head to toe,” she said.

“We looked at her and waited for some explanation, but she acted as if nothing was wrong, as if she always wore big bell-bottoms when they went out at night. We all laughed our heads off! I will always remember that night because it was the first time I laughed – really laughed – since Andy died.”

She found comfort in the fact that laughter can still find its way despite grief: “When you're grieving, sometimes it can seem like you'll never laugh again. But I laughed and have laughed a lot more since then,” she added.
