Man from Uniontown allegedly possesses over 450 images of child pornography

A convicted sex offender is being held without bail after a probation officer discovered hundreds of photos of child pornography on the man's cellphone, police said.

According to the complaint filed against Stanley Lee Herring, 43, of Uniontown, he had 452 images and videos in a locked file on his phone.

A Fayette County adult probation officer contacted Uniontown police on Aug. 16 after discovering the images, court records show. When police arrived, Herring reportedly told them he knew some of the pornographic images featured children under the age of 18. He also told police he received the images from friends on Facebook.

Herring is said to have told police that he knew he would get into “quite a lot” of trouble because of the images, which showed children ranging in age from toddlers to 16 years old.

He is accused of 452 counts of child pornography and one count of criminal use of a communications facility.

Herring, who lives on Mount Vernon Avenue, is a sex offender listed on the state's Megan's Law website.

In 2010, he pleaded guilty to a number of charges, including attempted rape, involuntary sexual intercourse and aggravated sexual assault. According to court records, Herring served five to 10 years in a state prison and was classified as a sexually violent offender.

District Judge Jason Cox, who arraigned Herring on Tuesday, denied bail after determining that Herring posed a threat to himself or others.

Herring was booked into the Fayette County Jail and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 12.
