The suspect in the city bus shooting was also charged with sexual assault

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – An Oahu grand jury on Tuesday indicted a 19-year-old on attempted murder charges in connection with a shooting in Kalihi.

Prosecutors said Johnathan Ten was also charged with three firearms violations stemming from a shooting that left a 16-year-old boy seriously injured on a Kalihi city bus on Aug. 9.

According to prosecutors, Ten was charged with kidnapping and sexual assault in another case involving a minor. He was free on $250,000 bail when the bus shooting occurred.

“You can be assured that we will do everything in our power to protect the public by obtaining convictions in both cases,” said Honolulu District Attorney Steve Alm.

If convicted of attempted second-degree murder, Ten faces a sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole.

Meanwhile, HPD is still searching for a second suspect who allegedly helped Ten escape on a blue moped.
