Statement by the IAM union on reports of a fatal tire explosion at a Delta Air Lines plant in Atlanta

ATLANTA, August 27, 2024 – The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) released the following statement on the tragic incident at Atlanta’s Hartsfield Airport involving Delta Air Lines workers:

“The IAM union, which represents over 100,000 members of the aviation industry across North America, stands in solidarity with the people of Atlanta and extends our deepest condolences to the families of the victims following the tragic incident that occurred this morning.

“As a union that cares about the well-being and safety of our members and the wider community, we will offer our resources to all those affected by this tragic event.

“We stand with Delta workers during this difficult time and call on Delta and the relevant authorities to immediately launch a thorough investigation to find out how this happened.”
