Bodycam shows head-on collision with police vehicle in Chester Co. – NBC10 Philadelphia

A Chester County man is facing assault charges after a police body-worn camera shows him driving directly into police and colliding with a patrol car.

In the early morning hours of August 13, West Whiteland Township police officers were called to a domestic dispute between a father and his son in the 300 block of South Balderston Drive.

When officers arrived, they saw a man driving a red Honda in the driveway of a home. They believed it was the suspect, 46-year-old Brian Hook, who was violating a restraining order by showing up at the home he was supposed to stay away from.

As officers exited their patrol cars and approached the house, Hook accelerated and drove across the front yard toward officers, striking a parked patrol vehicle and forcing them to swerve, police said.

A body-worn camera shows the moment Hook rams the officer's vehicle and then tries to escape.

“I think the public knows what's happening on social media and what they want to see, but sometimes they don't get to see it firsthand when we get to an incident and we're just waiting to talk to somebody, a victim or a family member or the actual person we're trying to contact, and then they turn around and just drive right into us,” said Detective Sergeant Jeff Mccloskey of the West Whiteland Police. “The response that took place that night put everyone in danger.”

Hook was taken off the streets and taken to hospital. He faces charges including assault on police officers.

Hook is scheduled to appear in court next month.

No officer was injured in this incident.
