Suspect in Streator City Park 'fired shots at birthday party,' court documents say – Shaw Local

The suspect in last month's shooting at Streator City Park has an attorney, a new court date and perhaps soon a new judge. Tyshawn Doyle is being held in the La Salle County Jail.

Doyle, 33, of Streator (also listed in Chicago) appeared in La Salle County District Court on Tuesday where he was formally charged with two felony counts. He faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted of armed habitual criminal conduct, but he is also charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, a Class 1 felony punishable by up to 15 years.

Court documents unsealed Tuesday say shots were fired at a July 20 birthday party at the park (where children were present) and that “several witnesses” saw and identified Doyle.

Video footage later recovered showed Doyle in a yard on Illinois Street in Streator holding “an object” – an object that was not seen when it resurfaced on surveillance footage. Investigators later recovered a 9mm handgun after obtaining permission from the property owner to search the property.

Prosecutors also said Doyle's girlfriend said in a statement that Doyle, with whom she was traveling, got out of the car and fired the shots.

One of the shots struck 32-year-old Jaleel Berry, who survived. Berry also faces felony charges. Prosecutors said he was carrying a .380-caliber pistol, although he is barred from owning a firearm due to a criminal record. If convicted, he faces up to seven years in prison.

Berry is in the Livingston County Jail on another charge. His next appearance is Sept. 16 before Superior Court Judge H. Chris Ryan Jr., where he will appear with his attorney and possibly be arraigned.

Doyle is also in custody and will remain there at least until his next hearing on Sept. 23. Chicago defense attorney Charles Snowden appeared on Doyle's behalf, but asked for time to review case information before arguing for Doyle's detention. Snowden also said he would make a motion to change judges in open court.
