1 dead, 2 youths in serious condition after being shot at while riding a quad

LAURINBURG, NC (WMBF/Gray News) – An 18-year-old was killed and two teenagers were seriously injured while riding an all-terrain vehicle in North Carolina Thursday night.

According to a Laurinburg police spokesman, officers were called around 8 p.m. to respond to reports of gunshots.

An investigation revealed that 18-year-old Zahquan Stewart was driving the ATV with two passengers, a 13-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy.

According to police, two men overtook the group in the ATV and began firing weapons, hitting Stewart and the 13-year-old.

According to authorities, Stewart lost control of his SUV and crashed into a tree.

Stewart died and the two teenagers were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A 16-year-old is charged with murder in connection with Stewart's death. The teenager has been placed in a youth correctional facility.
