Muskogee police placed on leave after shooting; suspect in custody

The Muskogee Police Department released additional details Monday evening about a shooting involving one of its officers.

The department confirmed Tuesday that two officers have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the investigation into the incident.

According to MPD, a Muskogee officer stopped a motorist for a disabled vehicle in the 1700 block of North York Street at approximately 9:20 p.m. The officer spoke with the driver and the three other occupants of the vehicle.

After conducting a check of the people in the vehicle, the officer was advised that one of the men, 23-year-old Jordan Pierce, had felony warrants. When a backup officer arrived, he approached the vehicle on the passenger side and ordered Pierce to get out.

The officer opened the vehicle door and Pierce pointed a gun at the officers. The officer fired several shots at the suspect, hitting him at least once. Pierce did not fire his weapon, according to the police department.

The other three people in the car were not hit by the gunfire, but one of them suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital in Muskogee.

Pierce was taken to a Tulsa hospital where he was treated for his injuries and taken into police custody. He was then booked into the Muskogee County Jail.

Pierce is charged with assault with a deadly weapon and has an outstanding warrant for possession of CDS with intent.

The officers involved were not injured. Both officers have been placed on regular paid administrative leave during the investigation. Muskogee police have not yet released the officers' names.
