News from Pune: 11-year-old girl sexually abused by 67-year-old man in Khadakwasla

An 11-year-old girl was allegedly sexually abused by a 67-year-old man in Khadakwasla in Pune.

The incident occurred on August 23 at around 11 am in a village about 15 km from the city of Pune.

According to police, the incident came to light on Saturday during a workshop on “Good Touch, Bad Touch” organized by the school to ensure the safety of young girls.

The girl, a fifth-grade student, told her teacher that she was sexually harassed on Friday.

The student stated that the man lured her with sweets and then sexually abused her.

The 67-year-old defendant was arrested by the police.

The incident was later reported to the school principal, who also informed the parents of the minor girl.

After the school principal discussed the matter with the girl's parents and members of the teachers' union, a complaint was filed against the accused at Haveli police station.

The girl is currently undergoing counseling and receiving medical care.

Sexual assault in Badlapur

In another development, a court in Kalyan in Maharashtra on Monday remanded the accused in the Badlapur sexual assault case to 14-day judicial custody.

The alleged sexual assault of two fourth-graders at a school in Badlapur has sparked outrage.

On August 17, police arrested a school employee for allegedly abusing the girls.

On August 23, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up to investigate the sexual harassment of minors in Badlapur filed a complaint against the school authorities for failing to comply with the provisions of Section 19 of the POCSO Act, which stipulates that any authority that comes to know of any such sexual harassment of minors is required to report it to the police authorities for further action.

Maharashtra Minister and Shiv Sena leader Deepak Kesarkar said that the CCTV footage of the last 15 days from the school in Badlapur was missing.

Kesarkar said, “The CCTV footage of the last 15 days is missing from the school. It is important to investigate why the footage has disappeared and what the motive is.”
