Dead Marvel VR game revived by fans as solo experience

Marvel Powers United VR is being brought back to life by loyal fans after it was canceled over three years ago.

Sanzaru Games' Marvel Powers United VR (Asgard's Wrath 2) launched in 2018 exclusively for Rift and focused heavily on multiplayer action. Although you could play solo, the focus was unsurprisingly on team action. It received mediocre reviews, including our own review of Marvel Powers United, and Meta eventually canceled it in 2021.

However, a small team of dedicated fans are bringing the once-dead game back. As discovered by VideoGamer, the Marvel Powers United Revival Project is a Discord server of users who want to preserve the game years after its untimely death. Unfortunately, the game's revival lacks multiplayer functionality despite having online restrictions lifted, but the group's goal is to “find a way to emulate multiplayer servers” to bring the game back in full.

This will allow you to enjoy superhero action before the launch of Batman: Arkham Shadows Quest 3 in October. However, the group points out that this revival project was “created for those who own the game and were unable to play the game they purchased between 2018 and 2021.”

In an age where digital-only video games are all too easily wiped from the internet, it's certainly exciting to see fans revive dead titles, as we saw with the Echo VR mod last November. Hopefully more people will be able to experience the Marvel VR game now, although other options like Iron Man VR and Marvel's What If? experience are also available.

Marvel: Powers United VR Review – A Massive Missed Opportunity

I don't envy Sanzaru Games. At first glance, the chance to translate the weird and wonderful world of Marvel into an Oculus Rift game that turns everyone into their favorite superhero might seem like a golden opportunity for any developer. Smash like the Hulk, punch like Wolverine, and swing
