Small child had THC in her body, mother arrested

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – A four-year-old child was hospitalized after getting a THC high, according to police.

According to police, the child's 25-year-old mother, Andra Barnett, said she gave all three children melatonin the night before to help them fall asleep, but the four-year-old child did not wake up properly.

Officials said the other two children were drug tested and tested negative.

When asked what the THC level in her daughter's body was, police said Barnett replied that she did not know and then added: “She must have gotten herself into something.”

According to police, Barnett admitted to regularly using marijuana but not consuming any edibles containing THC.

They said she then told them there was a single THC gummy bear in her nightstand.

According to police, Barnett said the little girl liked candy, so she must have eaten it.

Barnett is accused of child neglect.

She was released on $750 bail.
