Which car can you no longer see at the auto show?

A 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air is parked outside a Krispy Kreme doughnut shop in Daly City, California, on May 12, 2022. Krispy Kreme reported strong first-quarter earnings with net income of $4 million compared to a loss of $3.06 million a year ago.

My dad and I went on a vintage car cruise over the weekend and it got me thinking. What car are you just sick of seeing?

We weren't on the Woodward Dream Cruise, by the way. That cruise was a smaller affair. My dad and I got into his 1978 MGB and drove down a park-like road called Hines Drive through southeast Michigan, with a parade of other vehicles, all over 25 years old. You haven't lived when you hear your 70-year-old dad exclaiming at every '90s Chevy truck you drive by, “There's no way that's over 25 years old!”

Classic cars were parked randomly on the side of the road, so we got out of the MGB and took a little walk. And while we saw some cool stuff, like a 1951 Kaiser Deluxe with its SUV-like tailgate and a Nissan Fairlady paid for entirely out of pocket, we saw a whole lot of the same cars I've seen my whole life. Row after row of colorful '57 Bel Airs and black '70s Camaro SSes. Over and over and over.

Yes, since we're in Detroit, we're going to have an abundance of Detroit things like fast, cheap Camaros and big, lumbering family cars from the bygone era, but damn. Couldn't we make it a little more spicy? My own father, who worked in the auto industry, opted for an underpowered British roadster that's at least interesting, if not reliable.

We only went a few rows before we both shrugged off the copied show cars. It's not just classic shows, though. It's a cliche that Cars & Coffee events are often inundated with Ford Mustangs, and nowhere is that more true than in the heart and soul of Ford Country. Not to mention the massive amount of last-generation Chargers and Challengers. Our West Coasters say they've had enough of meets full of Porsche 911s.

And you? Which car have you seen enough of?
