Man killed in two-vehicle crash in Livingston Parish; 1 person arrested

LIVINGSTON PARISH, Louisiana (WAFB) – One man is dead and another has been arrested following a two-vehicle crash in Livingston Parish on Monday, August 26.

Shortly before 6 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a crash on LA 43 near Turkey Creek Road.

Authorities confirmed that 47-year-old Raymond Lexia Jr. of Independence, Louisiana, died in the accident.

The investigation revealed that a 2001 Ford Ranger, driven by Lexia, was traveling north on LA 43. At the same time, a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by 35-year-old Mitchell Ballard, was traveling south on LA 43.

For reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet left the road, oversteered and entered the northbound lanes, where it collided head-on with the Ford.

According to LSP, Lexia was properly restrained but was pronounced dead at the scene. Ballard was not properly restrained and suffered minor injuries.

As a result of the investigation, LSP reported that Ballard was arrested and booked into the Livingston Parish Jail on a charge of involuntary manslaughter and COperation without air pressure. No impairment is suspected in this accident, but standard toxicological samples will be taken and sent for analysis.

The crash is still under investigation.
