Criminal case against former Aiken election official postponed | Aiken area public safety and court news

The federal criminal case against former Aiken County Election Commissioner Cynthia Holland has been adjourned until November 6.

Judge Joseph Anderson Jr. issued an order on August 21 to continue Holland's case – that is, to postpone the trial – until the next court date.

Columbia attorney Tristan Shaffer requested an adjournment to “review upcoming evidence and speak with the government about a possible resolution,” Judge Anderson said in an order.

The U.S. Attorney's Office did not object to the postponement.

“Therefore, this Court hereby adjourns the above-referenced case until the November 6 session,” Judge Anderson continued in the order.

Federal Judge Paige Jones Gossett indicted Holland on July 31.

A federal court grand jury indicted Holland on July 18 on charges of knowingly and willfully embezzling more than $1,000 between April 2016 and November 2022 with the intent to withhold the money from the federal government and the Social Security Administration.
