Director Mo Wan-il is an expert at stunning the audience with his signature twists – we all remember The world of the married. The Frog is no different. To understand what happens to the protagonist Yeong-ha in the finale of the Netflix K-drama, we bring you all the details of The frog, explained from the plot to the end.

Inducing a feeling of fear through severe violence, The Frog plays on the audience's deepest fears. Written by rising star Son Ho-young, the story is a perfect blend of psychological horror and crime. It centers on two holiday home owners and their plight after they cross paths with two sinister killers.

The series, limited to eight episodes, is told non-linearly and constantly switches back and forth between two timelines – the early 2000s and the early 2020s. The Frog also has an all-star cast, with stars Go Min-si, Kim Yoon-seok and Yoon Kye-sang in the roles of protagonists Yoo Seong-a, Jeon Yeong-ha and Koo Sang-jun, respectively. Chanyeol from the K-pop band EXO, meanwhile, shines in the supporting role of Goo Gi-ho.

The Frog K-Drama Ending Explanation: Is Seong-a Dead?

The Netflix thriller K-drama The Frog begins with wide-angle shots of a narrow road in the forest, a cozy holiday home and an interesting question: “If a tree falls in the forest and there is no one there to hear it, did it make a sound?”

It's the summer of the 2020s, and protagonist Young-ha (played by Kim) is busy running his cozy vacation motel in the woods. His life is turned upside down when a mysterious woman named Seong-a (played by Go) shows up on his property with a young boy.

From the beginning, Seong-a gives off an unusual vibe. However, Yeong-ha, who assumes that the young boy Si-hyeon (played by Jo Yeo-joon) is Seong-a's son, sees no reason to worry and lets her stay. Days later, Yeong-ha realizes that Seong-a is missing. When he checks the video footage, he sees Seong-a leaving alone and realizes that she must have done something to the child. Although his conscience torments him, Yeong-ha decides not to report the incident because it would ruin the reputation of his property. Instead, he cleans the vacation rental and destroys all evidence of the incident.

A year passes and Seong-a returns to Seoul. This time, the show offers viewers a glimpse into her life. Yoo Seong-a, the main antagonist of the K-drama The Frogis a troubled painter from a wealthy family. When Seong-a returns from an art exhibition, she finds that none of her paintings are on display. Her anger escalates when she runs into her ex Ha Jae-sik (played by Jang Seung-jo), who reveals to her that Si-hyeon is actually his child.

After the heated argument, Seong-a decides to visit Yeong-ha's vacation home one more time. There, she meets Yeong-ha's daughter. When Yeong-ha calls later, Seong-a answers and reveals that she kidnapped his daughter. Yeong-ha is then blackmailed by Seong-a, who threatens to kill his daughter if he doesn't help her with a task. She takes him to a forest, but eventually the police come and arrest her. Later, Seong-a's father's lawyer comes and helps her get released. When she is released from police custody, Seong-a goes to the laundromat, where she burns all her clothes to destroy evidence. Meanwhile, Yeong-ha's daughter barely survives Seong-a's torture.

Elsewhere, a search of the field in the forest turns up numerous bodies. Later, police chief Bo-min (played by Lee Jung-eun) pursues Seong-a. The latter reaches a hut but encounters Jae-sik, who knows that she murdered his son, and confronts her with a gun. He shoots Seong-a in the stomach and when Bo-min arrives, Seong-a takes the chance and flees.

However, Jae-sik runs after her and shoots her twice in the chest and then in the head. When she falls into a nearby swimming pool, Yeong-ha goes in to make sure she is indeed dead. Later, viewers see a body being carried away from the pool, confirming that Seong-a is no longer alive.

The Frog K-Drama Ending Explained: What Happens to Yeong-ha's Vacation Home?

In the last moments The FrogYeong-ha closes his vacation home for good and returns to his daughter. The story ends with Yeong-ha in the cabin, reflecting on life and the future, still wondering, “If a tree falls in the forest and there's no one there to hear it, did it make a sound?”

What happens to Gi-ho in the finale?

The Korean drama also introduces viewers to an alternate timeline in the 2000s, where protagonist Sang-jun (Yoon) runs the Lakeview Motel in the same area as Young-ha's vacation rental. Sang-jun's life also changes forever when he rents one of his rooms to a sinister-looking guest, Ji Hyang-cheol (Hong Ki-joon), who commits a murder at the motel and flees.

Twenty years later, Sang-jun's son Gi-ho (played by Chanyeol) is still traumatized by the tragedy that also led to his mother's suicide. This caused differences between Gi-ho and his father Sang-jun. With a burning desire for revenge, Gi-ho expertly prepares over the years for the moment when he comes face to face with the killer.

Towards the end of the show, Gi-ho learns that Hyang-cheol is planning to publish his autobiography. He is angry that the murderer, despite causing so much suffering to others, continues and accepts all the terrible things he has done in a book. Gi-ho then hunts him down and successfully kills him.

When Gi-ho later tries to use the weapon against himself, plagued by guilt, Yeong-ha saves him and leaves his vacation home after destroying all evidence of the incident. In the last episode of The FrogYeong-ha receives a call from Gi-ho, who tells him that he would like to visit him at home. Yeong-ha replies that they have a lot to discuss and is looking forward to Gi-ho's arrival.
