China records a 30% decline in crime cases from January to July 2024

BEIJING — In China, the number of registered criminal cases fell 30.1 percent year-on-year in the first seven months of 2024, a decline of 14 consecutive months, official figures showed on Tuesday.

This decline follows China's stepped-up efforts to ensure long-term social stability, which have already led to a 4.8 percent year-on-year decline in criminal cases initiated in 2023, Qi Yanjun, vice minister of public security, said at a press conference.

Telecommunications fraud cases fell by 23.8 percent in the first seven months of 2024, continuing an eleven-month year-on-year downward trend.

As people's sense of security continues to rise, China's public security index reached 98.2 percent in 2023, maintaining a score above 98 percent for the fourth consecutive year, Qi added.
